Nit life cycle progression - Eucalyptus

The egg stage and the adult stage are the most distinctive stages in the nit life cycle progression. During their egg stage, they are attached to the hair shaft one half of an inch above the scalp. This stage lasts for 10 days. These eggs, or nits, are not easy to remove and may appear to be unaffected by the chemicals that can be found in pediculicides.

The most common treatment used for removing nits is a fine-toothed comb. Removing nits is very painstaking, as it can take very long to remove them one by one. These combs have very tightly spaces teeth which helps to pull the nits from their place. This task will be more difficult if the child has long or curly hair.

The adult stage is the second distinctive stage in the nit life cycle. The newly hatched eggs produce nymphs. Nymphs need to eat within the first hour, or they will die. Once fed, their color will start to turn darker, and they will then start to mature. Adult lice can produce up to 6 eggs per day and can live an average of 30 days.

Compared to nits, adult lice are easier to kill and eliminate. They can be smothered using chemical-free treatments, such as essential oils. When looking for lice infestation treatments, be sure to check how long the treatment will take. If your chosen treatment works for only a week, prepare yourself to do it over again and to do it for a longer period of time, as you now know how the nit life cycle works.

Imagine, if lice can produce six eggs per day for 30 days, they can definitely create an epidemic in just a week. To properly stop the nit life cycle, you should come up with the best possible treatment that works for you. There are various essential oils available that can provide you with lots of benefits, when it comes to eliminating lice and nits. These essential oils may include rosemary oil, eucalyptus oil, lavender oil, tea tree oil, coconut oil, peppermint oil and olive oil. Aside from these, you can also use butter, mayonnaise, Vaseline or vinegar. As much as possible, avoid using treatments with harmful chemicals as these can be dangerous, especially in children. Opt for a natural home remedy, as it is safer and often more effective. You can also use a nits comb to help you remove nits that are stuck to the hair shaft. Using vinegar can be very helpful to loosen the grip of the nits on the hair shaft, thus allowing you to get rid of them more easily.

If you are not very familiar with any of these home treatments, be sure to ask a physician first to avoid any allergic reactions or any other complications that they may cause. With the knowledge of how the nit life cycle works, you will now have an advantage in killing these nasty pests.

The trunk of the lemon-scented eucalyptus tree is used for timber but is also cultivated as an ornamental tree. Traditionally, it has been used as an insect repellent for use with cockroaches and silverfish.
